Garlic Is Found to Prevent Lung Cancer

New study suggests that consuming raw garlic decrease risk of lung cancer

A recent report suggests that garlic can aid in cancer prevention.

A recent study suggests that eating raw garlic twice a week can decrease your chances of getting lung cancer significantly. Research performed at Jiangsu Provincial Centre for Disease Control and Prevention in China stated that “garlic may potentially serve as a chemo-preventive agent for lung cancer,” suggesting its ability to prevent the risk of lung cancer, food navigator reports. The report suggests that by eating two cloves of raw garlic per day, smokers can reduce their risk of lung cancer by nearly 30 percent.

Garlic has always been an integral part of eastern medicine, and also has been known to be linked to both the immune system and cardiovascular health.

A compound in garlic, called diallyl sulphide, is an antibiotic, anti-fungal body that is released when a garlic bulb sprouts into cloves, and it may be responsible for garlic’s long history of traditional medicine. In Germany, garlic tablets are prescribed to patients with atherosclerosis, otherwise recognized as the hardening of the arteries by build up fat and cholesterol, as a treatment for the disease.

#9: Brazil Nuts

Population studies suggest that the risk of death from lung cancer is lower among people with a higher intake of the trace mineral selenium. Besides selenium, Brazil nuts are packed with vitamin E. Garlic

Dating back to Hippocrates (who coined the term cancer in the 4 th century B.C.), garlic has been seen as an herb with extraordinary medicinal qualities. It was long believed to be able to protect against cancer, but only recently have doctors discovered why.

Garlic actually prevents cancer cells from growing by increasing the activity of natural killer (NK) cells and macrophages (types of white blood cells that are important for immunity).  

A study in China found that people who consumed raw garlic two or more times per week dropped their risk of lung cancer by 44%.  

Eating garlic raw seems to be the best way to take advantage of its protective power since cooking or pickling it breaks down beneficial compounds.

In the Kitchen

If you're going to cook with garlic, mince it and leave it open to the air for 10 minutes before adding it to your food or sautéing. This allows chemical reactions to take place that enhance garlic's anti-cancer qualities.

It&rsquos known as the best way to keep vampires away, but research has proven that garlic can also help to keep lung cancer and bowel cancer at bay.

A study, which was carried out at the Jiangsu Provincial Centre for Disease Control and Prevention in China, looked at 1,400 lung cancer patients and 4,500 healthy adults.

Scientists found that participants who ate raw garlic at least twice a week were 44 per cent less likely to develop lung cancer.

What&rsquos more, those who smoke but ate garlic often were 30 per cent less likely to develop lung cancer, despite smoking being one of the biggest causes for the disease.

Meaning it&rsquos completely worth the bad breath!

However, nutritionist Anita Bean points out that it's important to know that quitting smoking is the only substantial way to reduce your risk.

Guidelines from the World Health Organisation recommend we consume around two to five grams of fresh garlic each day. This is also equivalent to one clove, 2 to 5 milligrams of garlic oil or 300 to 1,000 milligrams of garlic extract.

Researchers believe that up to 60 percent of cancer deaths can be prevented simply by adopting a healthier lifestyle. Since many foods contain antioxidants and phytochemicals — natural plant chemicals that may help prevent and fight diseases like cancer — changing your diet is an effective place to start. If you haven't already, consider adding the following items to your healthy eating regimen.

Black Beans

These legumes contain numerous cancer-fighting nutrients including anthocyanins and triterpenoids, which act as powerful antioxidants. Research has found that the nutrients in black beans can help fight breast, prostate and colon cancer.

Chili Peppers

Chili peppers are brimming with carotenoids, which are associated with cancer-protecting properties. Research has also shown that capsaicin found in chili peppers may also contribute to cancer cell death. It’s just another reason to add some spice to your dishes.

Mushrooms

Pomegranates

Pomegranates are high in the polyphenol punicalagin and anthocyanins, both are powerful antioxidants. Research conducted on both animals and humans found that pomegranate juice helped slow down cancer cell growth.

Green Tea

Scientific evidence suggests that the powerful antioxidants found in green tea (called polyphenols) help prevent breast, prostate, colon, stomach and skin cancer.

Strawberries

The potent antioxidant power of quercetin and ellagic acid found in strawberries has been shown to help play a role in cancer prevention and treatment. These phytochemicals have been shown to help protect DNA against damage and fight free radicals that may cause cell damage. They may also help prevent cancer formation and progression.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes contain the antioxidant lycopene, which has been shown to help protect against prostate, breast, lung and stomach cancer. Cooked tomatoes and tomato products like canned tomatoes, ketchup, tomato soup and spaghetti sauce contain more lycopene than fresh tomatoes. Watermelon, guava, pink grapefruit, blood oranges and apricots also contain the potent antioxidant.

Watermelon is a good source of lycopene, which is found in cooked or processed tomato products (like canned tomatoes). This antioxidant has been shown to help protect against certain types of cancer including breast, lung, prostate, and stomach.

Cruciferous Vegetables

Grapes

Nuts like almonds, cashews, walnuts, chestnuts and pistachios contain the antioxidant vitamin E, which may help prevent certain types of cancer. Many oils including safflower, corn and soybean oil also contain vitamin E.

Garlic

Several components found in garlic are thought to help prevent stomach, colon, esophageal, pancreas, skin, lungs and breast cancer. The active compounds are formed when garlic cloves are chopped or crushed.

Citrus

7 Home Remedies for Lung Cancer

1. German Remedy for Lung Cancer

Mix together the following ingredients:

  • 100 g cornflour
  • 250 g raw cow’s milk
  • 250 g grated carrots
  • 200 g grated apples
  • 100 g ground walnut
  • 100 g honey
  • the juice from half a lemon

If you can procure organic produce, that is even better. Mix the ingredients well and eat the entire quantity during the course of 1 day. This recipe is known to help heal all types of cancer, not just lung cancer.

2. Calamus & Honey Cure for Lung Cancer

Boil 1 kg of grated carrots and 125 g of calamus leaves in 3 l of filtered water until the water quantity reduces to 1 liter. Then add 1 kg of raw honey and continue boiling until the liquid drops to half. Now the recipe is done. Have 1 tsp of this concoction first thing in the morning. It is also important to exclude pork meat, deli, sugar, vinegar, and white bread from your diet while doing this remedy. In addition, drink 1 l of beetroot and apple fresh juice a day. Continue this treatment for 2 months and then pause for 1 month. If necessary, resume it. However, continue following a clean diet at all costs.

3. Potent Herbal Decoction for Lung Cancer

For this remedy, you need to mix the following dried herbs for a strong anti cancer tea mix:

  • 40 g marigold flowers
  • 40 g yarrow
  • 40 g horsetail
  • 40 g red clover
  • 40 g calamus
  • 40 g denseflower mullein
  • 40 g ribwort plantain
  • 40 g coltsfoot
  • 30 g nettle
  • 30 g lungwort
  • 30 g Iceland moss
  • 20 g sage
  • 20 g greater celandine
  • 20 g common knotgrass
  • 20 g herb-Robert
  • 20 g houndstongue root

Prepare an infusion with 1 tsp of this herbal tea mix in 1 cup of hot water. Let the tea infuse for 2 minutes, then you can drink it in small sips. Drink 3 cups of this tea every day.

4. Immune Boosting Herb Powder for Lung Cancer

Mix equal parts of echinacea, herb-Robert, arnica and poplar buds and turn them into a powder using a coffee grinder. Keep the powder in a seal tight jar.

  • Take 1 tsp of this powder and keep in under the tongue for 5 minutes, then swallow it down with water or tea.
  • Repeat this 4 times a day.
  • This is a 2 months cure that you can resume after a pause.

In the first 5 days, have 1 tbsp of the preparation in the morning and another one in the afternoon, 2 hours before eating. For the following days, have 1 tsp in the morning and another tsp in the afternoon, the same way, 2 hours before eating. To make the remedy even more powerful, add 2 drops of thyme essential oil to every tsp/tbsp you take. This is a 3 weeks long treatment but you can prolong it to 2 months if necessary. Pause for 7 days and then resume if the case be.

6. Olive Oil & Arnica Remedy

Make a macerate with 50gr of arnica flowers in good quality olive oil for 8 days. Have 1 tsp 3 times per day. In addition, follow Maria Treben’s remedy below, alongside this one.


Turmeric and Cancer

Some studies suggest the curcumin in turmeric has a variety of health benefits, including fighting cancer cells. Some lab studies have found it might work against lung, breast, prostate, and colon cancers. Others suggest that curcumin might help chemotherapy work better.

A study on people with colorectal cancer found it may help slow the disease’s progression. Another found taking it daily may lower the chance of cancer in people who are high risk of it.

But most evidence about turmeric and cancer comes from studies on animals or cells in the lab. With those studies, it's not clear what these studies mean for people who have cancer or those who are trying to avoid getting it.


Garlic

According to Dr. Axe, garlic, "especially when eaten raw or taken in extract form," supplies antioxidants that can "help to protect cells in the lungs and defend against free radical damage."

"Garlic may also boost the body's detoxification pathways and support immune activation that protects the nasal passageways," he continues.

According to Dr. Velikova, garlic also boasts "mild antiseptic properties" and can help reduce inflammation in the body—a plus for improved lung health.

Garlic is also one of several foods that are categorized as "pungent" in traditional Chinese medicine, according to Naturopathic Doctor Anna Johnson, owner of Anna's Organics. This category, which also includes foods like cayenne pepper, is made up of several well-known expectorants and "mucus busters," which can contribute to improved lung health.
