whiteferrari is a beer that has been a long time in the making. We've been experimenting with different malt and hop combinations through other recipes, trying to find what we believe is the best of both worlds rolled into one DIPA. Clocking in at 8%, this luxuriously soft DIPA is hopped intensely with 50/50 Citra and Galaxy(and a ton of it!). We used the freshest crop available of each hop to give this DIPA the most expressive hop character possible. Read Less

Together we dreamt up a proper 10.9% triple IPA with 100% English malt, a ton of flaked oats, fermented with a specific English yeast, and hopped intensely with Galaxy, Citra, and El Dorado. Huge mouthfeel with a touch of sweetness. Mimics the mouthfeel/sweetness of actual orange juice(without the acidity). Proper mental aroma on this one too. Very pleased to share Chubbles with y'all!

101 Best Beers in America

Is there a finer beverage out there than beer? We’re not so sure there is. Whether you’re having a quiet homemade dinner with family, spending the day outside at the beachor the ballpark with friends, or just sitting on your couch and catching up on some binge-worthy television, there’s no drink that pairs better with a good time than an ice-cold, delicious beer. It doesn’t matter if you like a drink that’s sweet, bitter, refreshing, challenging, cold, or room temperature, there’s a beer out there for you. So in honor of the humble beer and all that it has become in the booming craft beer movement, we sought out the 101 best beers in America.

How did we do that? Glad you asked.

To determine the best beers in America, we cross-checked beer ratings on Untappd, BeerAdvocate, and RateBeer, looking for the beers that average beer drinkers and beer-tasting professionals alike have given the highest ratings and biggest praise. We also tapped in to our own extensive tasting experience and knowledge, giving nods to the best beers our editors have had over the last year. Additionally, because beer (and craft beer specifically) tends to be centered in a few big states like California, Michigan, Florida, Ohio, and Vermont, we gave special consideration to brews from less beer-heavy states like North Dakota and New Mexico. Thus, nearly every state in the union is represented on our list of the 101 best beers in America. We have also left the beers on this list unranked. Our list is diverse in beer styles, and it’s frankly impossible to weigh the merits of, say, a witbier versus the merits of a Russian imperial stout.

Life is too short to spend it drinking bad beer, that’s what we always say. So make sure you never waste your time sipping on swill by adding these 101 best beers in America to your must-try list.

Daily Serving was born out of our desire to express intense, saturated fruit character in beer form. After thoughtful experimentation with Permutation 6.47 and 6.51, we found that a base recipe similar to the German Berliner Weisse style, with its delicate, yet fluffy mouthfeel and even-keeled acidity is the perfect foundation for robust fruit additions.

Illuminated Brew Works | Chicago

Brian Buckman, co-founder and head brewer of Illuminated Brew Works, mainly focuses on farmhouse beers — but just last year, he dove into double IPAs and since has started a series of beers that combined the two, calling it their “Hopped Up Farmhouse Series.” Later on, he wanted to experiment some more and had heard about brewers involving fruit in their beers. “I dug around the internet and found people were getting this great fruit hop character without bitterness with post-boil hop additions,” he says.

Buckman’s double IPAs were enjoying some solid success, so he wanted to build upon that, but with a twist. “It wasn’t long before we thought about throwing in some lactose sugar. There is something perfectly synergistic about the fruit-forward hoppiness of DIPAs and the round, full-bodiedness that lactose sugar brings to the table. And together, it’s just the most delicious candy you could ever have.”

The Week Ahead in Beer: Show some extra support to the smallest breweries

Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s eight breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.

Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.

We have entered a weird place where it seems like our breweries have been split in two. The governor has allowed breweries with 50 percent or more of their total sales coming from food, what we would call brewpubs, to reopen to 50-percent dine-in capacity, while food-less or food-limited breweries still cannot have anyone sit inside or on the their patios and enjoy a pint. Since many brewpubs do not have their own canning lines, the only package they have been selling is growlers and/or crowlers for the past 10 weeks. This is a major revenue boost for brewpubs. As for the other breweries, some have held their heads above water in large part due to having large numbers of four- and six-pack cans for sale, but those who have traditionally only had draft sales are perhaps in the greatest danger right now. While we normally do not say people should favor one brewery over another, please do not forget many of these small neighborhood pubs. You can go out and grab a bite and a brew at one of the open places, but consider stopping by a non-canning brewery for a growler or crowler and help them out. Examples of these include Bombs Away, Bow & Arrow, Brew Lab 101, Casa Vieja, Dialogue, High and Dry, Kilt Check, Palmer, Sidetrack, Thirsty Eye, and Turquoise Trail in the Albuquerque area. You are more than welcome to still get beer to-go from the bigger breweries, like La Cumbre and Marble and Ex Novo and more, but this week, consider the little guys.

On the new beer front this week, there are a few new options to check out. (UPDATE) Boxing Bear has Headlock Hazy IPA and Black and Blue Tart back in cans. Ex Novo will release Saul Fruitman, a fruited IPA, in cans at some point in the near future, but Coorales Light Lager is now available for crowler/growler fills. High and Dry takes on Artificial Responsibility, a New England-style IPA. La Cumbre stealthily released Sun Fade Hazy IPA in cans on Monday, and will add a limited number of Clarity Hazy DIPA cans on Friday. (UPDATE) Marble puckered up with Pink Lemonade Lager available for crowler/growler fills. (UPDATE) Ponderosa has Hop-Mosa Hazy IPA available in cans. Quarter Celtic brings back a fan favorite in Mangose on draft. Sidetrack drops a fresh batch of Buzz Bomb for crowler/growler fills, (UPDATE) plus Mosaic Montage Hazy Pale Ale was tapped for the weekend. (UPDATE) Starr Brothers and Palmer teamed up again for a fresh batch of 2 Robs Make a Rita, available at both for crowler/growler fills.

Up in Santa Fe, now that Rowley Farmhouse Ales is open for dine-in customers, they put Hail Stan and Saison du Sarlacc – Baby Yoda Edition back on draft, (UPDATE) plus Germophile – Mango/Pink Guava is now available in cans. Second Street tapped more of its House IPA for growler fills until the Rufina taproom reopens Thursday, plus today marks the release of Sloppy Sloth Zappa Hazy IPA in cans. Over in Los Alamos, Bathtub Row celebrates birthday No. 5 with Anniversary Lager in special bottles.

Breweries, if there is anything not in here that you would like the public to know about, get in touch with us ASAP. We can continuously update this post as needed.

Brix & Plato Readings

Most refractometers you will find on the market usually come in Brix scale, and it’s important to discuss this particular system in detail.

Like the Plato scale, which is widely used by European professional brewers (and which is a technical refinement of the Brix scale), the Brix scale measures the exact content of sugar in a liquid solution measured in degrees.

This measurement is very useful when making wine, brewing beer, or dealing with any other liquid substances that rely on exact measurement of sugar content.

That’s why refractometers are particularly popular with winemakers, brewers, and other beverage industry professionals. And if you’re not particularly used to the Brix/Plato scale, it can be easily converted to Specific Gravity.

Moreover, there are many refractometers on the market that come both in Brix and Specific Gravity scales, so this shouldn’t be a problem.

Braggot Style Guidelines?

The best thing about making your own braggot? There are no strict guidelines to making one – just a general idea of what it should be like, and not very well-defined at that. Which means that any interpretation of this drink is acceptable, and you can set your imagination free while doing one.

How Strong To Make A Braggot?

To get the most out of the honey and for the flavour to be pronounced you need to use a fair amount. This means braggot tends to be fairly high in ABV, anywhere from around 8% all the way up to 14% ABV will lead to the best results.

What Should A Braggot Taste Like?

The key ingredients defining this drink should take centre stage here. A braggot should feature both malt and honey notes in its flavour and aroma.

Unlike beers that use honey as an adjunct, or meads that may use malt for flavour or colour correction, a good example of braggot should highlight both these ingredients more or less to an equal degree.

Hops can come into play as well if you’re feeling adventurous. However, it’s a generally accepted idea that braggot shouldn’t be aggressively hopped, otherwise the primary flavours of the base fermentables will take a backseat behind the hops, which defeats the initial purpose of the brew.

The Week Ahead in Beer: Ex Novo goes all in on All Together IPA

Greetings, New Mexico craft beer lovers. Stoutmeister here with The Week Ahead in Beer. This column covers all the breweries in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties, with Santa Fe’s eight breweries, one in Los Alamos, one in Moriarty, one in Red River, one in Silver City, and one in Truth or Consequences also joining the party.

Stoutmeister puts on his serious face to handle The Week Ahead in Beer.

Back in the early days of the lockdown, Other Half Brewing came up with the concept for All Together IPA. The idea was similar to last year’s Resilience, with one beer recipe offered up, with proceeds going to a specific cause. In this case, it is meant to go to healthcare workers or other deserving people in the area around the brewery. None of the breweries in New Mexico jumped on board at the outset, but eventually Icebox Brewing in Las Cruces made their own version of All Together. Now, Ex Novo is releasing its batch this Sunday at noon. The brewery is putting no limits on how much you can purchase, so if you want to load up case after case, you can! This is a 7-percent ABV hop-forward beer, with lots of Cascade, Citra, Mosaic, and Simcoe. All of the net proceeds will go back to the Ex Novo employees. Considering that Ex Novo sold out of crowlers within the first three hours of last Friday’s $5 promotion, do not expect the All Together supply to last beyond Sunday. Get out to Corrales early, so make some room in your beer cellar the day before.

One other bit of news that we wanted to pass along is that Red Door’s downtown taproom is reopening today (Wednesday). Its hours will be 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Food and beer will be available for takeout.

On the new beer front this week, there are a few other new options to check out. Bosque is set to release Pickle Down Economics, a pickle gose, in cans on Thursday at all locations (and it sold out by Friday, FYI), (UPDATE) plus Zestoration, a lemon gose, arrives for growler fills this weekend. Bow & Arrow adds Quarantine Sunset Hazy IPA to its list of beers available for crowler/growler fills on Friday. (UPDATE) Boxing Bear would normally be hosting Bear Fest this weekend, but instead will settle for releasing Bear Fest Stay at Home Lager in cans on Saturday. Ex Novo also has fresh cans of Sons of Scotland and the new Dress Code, a cherry sour, will be in cans either Thursday afternoon or Friday (and it also quickly sold out), plus Paddy O’Friendly Dark Irish Red is available for growler fills. High and Dry tapped Helen: A Handbasket (Helles) and Bruised Knees IPA for crowler/growler fills. (UPDATE) Kilt Check goes back in time with the pre-Prohibition-style Lockdown Lager being tapped Thursday for growler fills. La Cumbre is releasing cans of Zuzax Ale, a kolsch-style brew, on Monday. (UPDATE) Marble is adding Porter at all three locations Thursday for crowler/growler fills. Nexus is bringing Beam Me Up Scotty back on Friday for growler fills for its anniversary weekend. Sidetrack added Mañana Mexican Lager for crowler/growler fills, with A Tribe Called Kolsch and Unclear Hazy IPA due up by the weekend. Starr Brothers wins again on the beer names with Ludwig Von Hazethoven, now available for crowler/growler fills.

Up in Santa Fe, Blue Corn has tapped some Whiteout Stout for crowler/growler fills. (UPDATE) Rowley Farmhouse Ales is releasing cans of The Other One Hazy IPA on Friday. (UPDATE) Second Street has tapped Saison for growler fills. Over in Los Alamos, Bathtub Row has added Grapefruit Session Ale in 22-ounce bottles. (UPDATE) Further north, Red River Brewing is tapping its summer favorite, Desperado Mexican Lager, on Thursday. Down south, Truth or Consequences Brewing tapped StarJuice IPA for crowler/growler fills.

Breweries, if there is anything not in here that you would like the public to know about, get in touch with us ASAP. We can continuously update this post as needed.

Continue reading for all the news that is fit to blog for the week of May 18.
