Chicken Nuggets

Preparation time: less than 30 minutes


Clean the chicken breast and cut into strips of about 5 cm. Season with salt and pepper or spice for chicken.

The cornflakes are put in a bag and crushed with a rolling pin. Beat the eggs well. Mix flour with salt and pepper (or any other spices you like).

The meat strips are given through flour, egg and then cornflakes.

Place in a tray lined with aluminum foil and greased with a little oil.

Bake for 15 minutes, turn and leave for another 15 minutes.

How are chicken nuggets prepared?

Surprising as it may seem, chicken nuggets are made from a pink paste resembling frozen strawberry yogurt or chewing gum. In his blog, Early Onset of Night, Michael Kindt revealed that this paste is prepared by grinding and mechanical separation of whole chicks.

And that's not all: the pink paste obtained from the process described above is full of bacteria and, to sterilize it, the manufacturers use a simple but disgusting technique called ammonia bath. Then, so that we don't feel the unpleasant smell of disinfectant every time we order a portion of chicken nuggets, the paste is treated with all sorts of artificial colors and flavors.

We Tested a Whole Bunch of Frozen Chicken Nuggets and These Are the Three Bags You Should Buy

If you've walked down the frozen food aisle of your grocery store lately, you've probably seen more than a dozen different varieties of chicken nuggets, from classic plain to chile-lime. There are also lots of plant-based options on those store shelves. It's overwhelming.

Whether you’re a toddler or a full-fledged grown-up, we all have opinions about what makes a great chicken nugget. My personal favorite is McDonald’s chicken nuggets - how do they get the breading like that ?! But, I digress.

To level the playing field, for this taste test we factored in three things when deciding on the best store-bought frozen chicken nuggets: crispiness of breading, juiciness of chicken, and overall taste. We only considered fully cooked frozen chicken nuggets in classic or kid-friendly shapes (like dinos), made of 100% chicken or a combination of chicken and plants, which could be cooked in the oven or microwave. This ruled out popcorn chicken, chicken & quotbites & quot of any kind, tenders and patties, and chicken nuggets designed for the air fryer. We also ruled out 100% plant-based chicken nuggets for this test.

We cooked 12 varieties of chicken nuggets in a toaster oven, full-size oven and microwave, according to package instructions. We cooked six nuggets at a time and evaluated them based on the parameters listed above. More than 200 chicken nuggets later, these are the three varieties we love the most.

Chicken Nuggets - Recipes

Chicken nuggets are children's favorites, which is why we have prepared a healthier recipe than fast food options. These crispy chicken pieces will be the delight of the little ones, but you can also prepare them for adults, with an arugula salad or in a delicious salad with avocado and chicken.

1 egg
1 cup water
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon MSG (Accent)
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
4 chicken breast fillets, each cut into 6-7 bite sized pieces
vegetable oil, for frying

Place the egg in a shallow bowl and beat it well. Stir in the water until blended.

In a plastic zip-top bag, combine the flour, salt, onion, powder, MSG, black pepper, and garlic powder. Shake to mix the ingredients.

Place the chicken breasts on a cutting board and pound to an even thickness (about 1/4-inch thick) with a meat mallet. Cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces and trim off any excess skin or fat.

Add the chicken pieces to the flour mixture and shake well to coat then shake off any excess flour. Remove the chicken to a paper towel.

When all the chicken pieces are coated in flour, individually dip them in the egg mixture to coat then let excess egg drip off them. Place them back in the bag with the flour. Repeat with remaining chicken pieces.

Shake the bag well to coat the chicken then place the bag - chicken and flour included - in the freezer for an hour. Place the egg mixture in the refrigerator, covered, while the chicken is chilling.

After the chicken has chilled, repeat the egg / flour process again to double coat them.

Meanwhile, heat oil in a skillet or deep fryer to 375 degrees F. When the chicken is ready, add the McNuggets to the oil in small batches (do not crowd the pieces) and deep fry until brown and crispy.

Remove the McNuggets from the oil and drain on brown paper bags (do not use paper towels or they will make them soggy). Repeat with remaining chicken pieces letting the oil come back up to temperature between batches if necessary.

Family of teen who choked on chicken nugget gets $ 2 million

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The family of a 19-year-old student with autism will receive a $ 2 million settlement from a Florida school district a year and a half after he choked on a chicken nugget and died.

The settlement approved by the Palm Beach County School Board on Wednesday, also sets up a mandatory training program - named in honor of Kedar Williams - for principals, teachers and other employees who work with special needs students, the South Florida SunSentinel reported.

"His parents are pleased not only with the settlement, but they are most proud of the fact they fought for their son and fought for a training program designed to address the deficiencies that led to Kedar's death," said Sia Baker-Barnes, a lawyer. who represents his mother, Megan Williams, and estate.

Kedar Williams was rushed to a hospital Aug. 13, 2019, after choking on the chicken nugget at William T. Dwyer High in Palm Beach Gardens.

Williams had a form of autism that made him mostly non-verbal, and he also had a condition that made him prone to aspiration, or choking, the family said.

An aide was supposed to be assigned only to Williams, Baker-Barnes said. But video showed the aide was attending to another student when Williams choked.

“Having your son wave goodbye to you in the morning, before school, and then never seeing him alive again is a mother’s worst nightmare. Our family has a gaping hole without Kedar in our lives, ”his mother, Megan Williams, said in a statement.

The boy's father, Jeffrey Williams, will share in the settlement. He is a teacher in Polk County.

"He's around children every day, so this is a reminder of the loss he feels," Salesia Smith-Gorden, a lawyer Jeffrey Williams, told the newspaper.

Normally, there’s a cap of $ 300,000 for negligence or liability cases, unless a claims bill is filed in the Legislature, allowing a larger payout. But the family filed a lawsuit in federal court, in addition to state court, citing a violation of federal protections for students with disabilities. "While no amount of money will ever take away the pain caused by this tragedy, the Palm Beach County School District hopes that the settlement reached with the Williams family will help ease the burden of this tremendous loss," district spokeswoman Claudia Shea said in a statement.
