Where to Watch a Game In Houston

Where to Watch a Game In Houston

The best sports bars of Houston

It's crucial to find out where the best sports bars of Houston are (after all, this is a state dedicated to football and other pro sports). The best places to watch a game:

The Mezzanine Lounge

"It's...a good spot to drop in on once in a while when you need a conveniently located place to eat bar food and watch a game without being annoyed by the people around you," says the Houston Press when including the bar in its own roundup of best sports bars. Which, really, what more do you need from a sports bar? With more than 30 TVs, pool tables, a juke box, and as many drink specials as there are games on, you're set for game day.

SRO Sports Bar & Cafe

You're hardpressed to not get a good seat in front of a TV at SRO. Plus, we appreciate the airy atmosphere (nothing sucks more than being crowded while trying to watch a game), and a beer list a mile long.

PJ's Sports Bar

"A small, friendly neighborhood bar located in the Montrose Area," PJ's is known for three things: kareoke (yes, really), Football Sundays, and Steak Night. Yeah, that's $27.50 for two steaks, two potatoes, and two pitchers of beer.

It should be no surprise to see Griff's on the list, as it usually earns the top spot on every sports bar ranking in Houston. Why does it reign above all? It's the oldest sports bar (born in 1965), it's a neighborhood institution (thanks to its involvement in St. Patrick's Cathedral and its St. Patty's Day festivities), and it's home to $1 Lone Stars. With 25 beers on the list, plus an extensive food menu, you shouldn't be anywhere else.

How to Watch Houston Dynamo vs. San Jose Earthquakes: Lineups, odds, game thread

The Quakes are basically going with who you figured, with a couple wrinkles. Tommy Thompson gets the start at right back, and Cade Cowell starts, presumably up top.

Our first XI of the 2021 season.

Houston are going with a very different lineup this season and what appears to be a 3-4-3 lineup, which you don’t see much in MLS.

Your first Dynamo XI of the season#HoldItDown | @MattressMakers

— Houston Dynamo FC (@HoustonDynamo) April 16, 2021

The 2021 San Jose Earthquakes’ season is finally here, and we’ll find out if it was truly worth the wait, starting with Friday’s season opener against the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Stadium.

The Earthquakes have been pretty successful in recent years with their season openers, going 3W-1L-1D in their last five, but they have not been as successful in trips to Houston, only winning once in eight tries, that victory coming way back in 2015.

Houston will be missing Maynor Figueroa (health and safety), Ethan Bartlow (concussion) and Sam Junqua (concussion) in this game, although none of those players may have started this game even if they were available. For San Jose, Andy Rios (lower leg) is listed as questionable, and we’ll have to see if he features or if there are any other changes to the projected XI.

Our partners at DraftKings Sportsbook as of Saturday evening have San Jose at (+280), Houston at (-114) and a draw at (+270). So they have the Dynamo as significant favorites, probably favoring their being at home, although I’m kind of surprised it’s tilted this far in Houston’s favorite.

Portland Trail Blazers vs. Houston Rockets: Game preview, time, TV channel, how to watch free live stream online

PORTLAND, OREGON - DECEMBER 26: CJ McCollum #3 of the Portland Trail Blazers shoots a three-point basket against the Houston Rockets during the third quarter at Moda Center on December 26, 2020 in Portland, Oregon. (Photo by Steph Chambers/Getty Images) Getty Images

This is one of those games that could be considered criminal for the Portland Trail Blazers to lose.

The sixth-place Blazers, trying to fend off the seventh-place Los Angeles Lakers (38-30 ) and catch the fifth-place Dallas Mavericks (40-28), on Monday night face a Houston team with the worst record in the NBA.

The Blazers trail Dallas by one game and were leading the Lakers by 1 game. The Mavericks won 127-94 at Cleveland on Sunday. The Lakers took down Phoenix, 123-110.

Portland has four games remaining but just one against a losing team, the Rockets (16-52), who were 11-10 on Feb. 4. They are 5-42 since and have lost 10 out of 11.

Here’s what’s interesting: The Rockets, hit hard by injuries this season, on March 27 entered a pattern in which they’ve won one game then lost five four consecutive times. The Blazers fall on the game in which Houston is supposed to win in order for that pattern to continue.

That certainly seems improbable given how well the Blazers have been performing. Still, anything can happen in the NBA.

That all said, the Rockets have been allowing 127 points per game over their last five losses and rank 26th in defensive rating (115.3) and 27th in offensive rating (107.5) on the season. Their defensive rating over the past 20 games ranks last (118.5).

What: Trail Blazers (39-29) vs. Rockets (16-52), 7 p.m., Monday.

Where: The Moda Center.

TV channel: NBC Sports Northwest (in Portland: Comcast 37/737).

Radio: Rip City Radio (KPOJ 620 AM)

How to watch live stream online: You can watch this game live with your cable provider login, or you can watch the game live for FREE with FuboTV (free trial). If you already have a cable package, you can watch the game live on NBC Sports NW with your cable provider login information.

Spread: Blazers by 14.5 | Spread: 238

Moneyline: Blazers (-1400) | Rockets (+800)

Blazers: F Carmelo Anthony (right ankle, sprain) and F/C Zach Collins (left ankle, stress fracture) are out.

How to Watch Houston Texans Games Live

It is possible to watch Houston Texans games live online or on TV without an expensive Cable TV package. Usually these games are on CBS, but that may change depending on schedule, type of game or national interest.

Use a TV antenna to watch the games on your TV

If the game is on either CBS, NBC, FOX or ABC, you can likely watch it live free if you have an inexpensive device called a digital TV antenna. A TV antenna allows you to watch your local broadcast channels for free once you've bought the antenna. This however requires your home to be within range of the local station that is carrying the game.

Use official NFL apps to stream games online

While using an over-the-air TV antenna is still the best way to freely watch most NFL games, if the Houston Texans game is on ESPN, NFL Network or is blacked out for attendance reasons, you can still watch it, albeit with a little bit of work involved.

If you are looking to stream NFL games online using one of their official apps, you have a few options:

NFL Gamepass - NFL Gamepass allows you to stream any NFL game after the live game has ended. This will be your cheapest and easiest option, but obviously you won't be able to watch the games live. There is a free trial available.

NFL Sunday Ticket - NFL Sunday Ticket will allow you to live stream NFL games from any device, but the catch is that you can only watch out-of-market games. This means if you live in the market you are trying to watch the game for, you'll need to mask your location with a VPN (see below).

Removing Local Blackout Restrictions

If the NFL attempts to blackout live streaming of Houston Texans games due to you being within the their home viewing area, use a VPN to get around it.

By using a VPN, or virtual private network, your home's exact location is masked. Teams then cannot determine if you are within their blackout "range", thus allowing you to watch whatever sports team you want.

Our favorite VPN service &mdash and one of the most respected &mdash is NordVPN. I recently switched to NordVPN, which is the most trusted VPN service anywhere. I can vouch that they work for this exact use-case because I've done it.

A VPN hides where you actually are on the internet. After purchasing their service, you get an IP address that is registered from some far-away place (think Germany, Italy or Seattle), and that IP is either entered into your home internet router or via their downloaded "VPN app" on whatever device you plan on watching sports on (phone, TV, tablet, etc). This IP address acts as a disguise to the various major sports teams that attempt to "blackout" their streaming services for those of us that can simply watch it on our TVs or computers.

Are VPNs Legal?

When used for watching TV and your local sports teams, VPNs are not illegal and anyone can use a VPN service to watch sports without fear of the police coming knocking at your door. The act of surfing the web or streaming shows through another IP is completely legal, and is something even the largest companies in the world do all the time. However, if you hide behind a VPN service to perform illegal activities, then you're of course violating the law - and we would never condone that.
