The beans are soaked in the evening.

Italian bean dish

The Italian bean dish, named after its original fagioli all’uccelletto, was the main piece of yesterday’s lunch. Because I had more free time, I prepared a richer lunch than usual. I started it with some wholemeal bruschettas with tomatoes and arugula, I continued with the Italian bean dish that I ate with polenta croutons and grilled pork chops, and for dessert I made a panna cotta with pineapple and caramel . The bean dish I propose to you today, for which I used a can of beans from my friends at Sun Food, is a traditional recipe for Tuscan cuisine. Simple, fast and absolutely wonderful served as such or as a garnish for grilled or baked steaks, sausages, etc.

Italian Bean Food - Ingredients (2-4 people)

  • 300 g beans Sun Food
  • 200 g of tomato juice
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large clove of garlic
  • 1 small sprig of fresh rosemary
  • 4-5 medium fresh sage leaves
  • 100 ml vegetable / water soup
  • salt
  • freshly ground pepper

Italian bean meal - Preparation

  • Drain the beans, rinse under a stream of cold water and let it drain through the sieve.
  • Put the oil in a non-stick pan, over low to medium heat. When it has warmed up, add the sage, the rosemary sprig and the cleaned and whole garlic clove.
  • Saute them for about 1 minute, then add the tomato juice mixed with vegetable soup or water.

  • Boil the sauce for about 10-15 minutes, on low to medium heat, or until it acquires a slightly dense consistency.
  • Add the well drained beans, mix carefully and cook the bean for another 5 minutes on low heat.
  • 2-3 minutes before turning off the heat, season the bean dish with salt and freshly ground pepper.

  • The bean meal is served hot, plain or with grilled or baked steaks.
