Recipe Caramelized Apples of of 23-10-2012 [Updated on 27-08-2018]

Caramelized apples are one of the most classic Halloween recipes, the recipe was born in America in 1908, thanks to an experiment made by William W. Kolb, a candy manufacturer, who was looking for new Christmas recipes based on flavored red caramel with cinnamon, he decided to dip the apples in the mixture obtained.
His intuition was a great success, the sale of caramelized apples spread throughout the country, in pastry shops, fairs and circuses and since then, in the collective imagination the caramelized apple recalls the idea of the party.
Over time, caramelized apples have become one of the typical Halloween sweets, also because this holiday falls at the same time as the apple harvest.
Although it takes very little time to make this recipe, for its success it is necessary to use a cooking thermometer, otherwise you will have to grope like I did and cross your fingers so that the caramel takes on the right consistency. But no more chatter, let's now move on to the recipe and at the bottom of the page look at how 2 little girls have fun after an afternoon spent in the kitchen, bite into their haunted halloween apples: D

How to make caramelized apples

Wash the apples, dry them, remove the stalk and pierce each apple with a wooden or plastic stick

Prepare the caramel now, if you have a thermometer for sweets it will be easier, otherwise you will have to go a bit to the occio ...:
In a saucepan, melt the sugar with the honey and water.

Bring the syrup to a boil, it must reach 100 °, then add the coloring, cinnamon and vanillin

Stir and let it boil over medium heat for a few minutes until it reaches a temperature of 150 °

When the caramel is ready (you will notice it by pouring a drop of caramel in a bowl with cold water, if it thickens it is ready), take the apples and dip them by swirling them until they are covered with a thin layer of caramel.

place the caramelized apples on a wire rack under which you have placed a sheet of parchment paper

Let the caramel dry, then serve your bewitched apples immediately
